Cosmos flowers at Taiyo No Oka Engaru Park
Taiyo no Oka Engaru Park is one of the largest cosmos gardens in Japan, with some 10 million flowers blooming in a vast 10-hectare area. Supported by the volunteer efforts of local businesses and students, this site was born out of the desire for visitors to appreciate the beautiful flowers.
During summer, the cosmos garden, suffused with this warmth of heart, is filled with various types of flowers, among which yellow and mixed cosmos. An observation deck allows you to fully enjoy the splendid view, with a 360-degree panoramic view that looks like a movie scene. Children will love the one-of-a-kind miniature bullet train. The best time to see the cosmos is late August to late September.

Sunflower fields in the beautiful “Hill Town” of Biei
Zerubu Hill is a popular sightseeing spot in Biei, a town known for its beautiful “hill town” atmosphere. Here, flowers bloom prolifically, depending on the season.
Many people come to the Hill to see the sunflowers, which grow abundantly in expansive fields and are in full bloom twice between July and September. Aside from sunflowers, visitors can also see lavenders, poppies, and other 30 varieties of flowers. Enjoy the vast park by renting ATVs or sightseeing cars to cruise at your own pace!

Shimin No Mori hydrangea garden
Head to Hakodate’s Shimin No Mori, located right across the Trappistine Convent in the Yunokawa area, to see one of the most extensive hydrangea gardens in Hokkaido.
Every year from July to August, 20 different types of over 13,000 hydrangea shrubs bloom in beautiful colors, offering visitors an unforgettable sight! While there, make sure to visit both the garden and the Trappistine Convent, as they are right across the street.
After enjoying a leisurely walk around the area, try the local delicacy Hokkaido Soft Cream. As the name suggests, it’s made of the rich and creamy, yet refreshing Hokkaido local milk.
Take the Goryokaku/Trappistine Shuttle Bus to “Trappistine-mae Station.” Walk for about a minute once getting off.

Seasonal flowers of Takino Suzuran Kyoryo Park
From mid-September to early October, Sapporo’s Takino Suzuran Kyoryo Park hosts its annual Cosmos Festival, offering many exciting events and activities!
During the warmer months, beautiful flowers cover the park’s skiing area. Different types of flowers bloom each season－ tulips in spring, lavenders in summer, and over half a million cosmos flowers in fall. The sight of more than 60 types of cosmos flowers in varying hues of pink and white is one that you shouldn’t miss!
The Cosmos Festival features activities and events such as making pressed flowers and bouquets, garden tours, a Support Hokkaido Festival, and more. The best time to see cosmos flowers is from mid-September to early October.

Sunflowers and cosmos garden at Omagari Lakeside Park
The sunflower field and cosmos garden at the Omagari Lakeside Park have a slightly unusual history: they occupy the former farmland of the Abashiri Prison. Nowadays, there are some 2.6 million sunflowers that fill the vast area, forming a sight of an overwhelming scale. The sunflower fields roll as far as the eye can see, so why not experience their history and grandeur?
From mid-to-late September, the cosmos begin to bloom. If you want to see both flowers, it’s best to visit in late September.
