Asahibashi Bridge, which hangs over the Ishikari River, is known as one of the Eight Beautiful Sceneries of Asahikawa City. It has also been designated as a Hokkaido Heritage Site. The first version of Asahibashi Bridge was built in 1904 as Hokkaido Prefecture’s second steel highway bridge. The second (current) version was completed in 1932, and measures 224.82 meters. The bridge is also known as one of the Three Great Bridges of Hokkaido Prefecture, alongside the former Toyohira Bridge (Sapporo City) and the former Nusamai Bridge (Kushiro City). It is the only one of the three that has retained its original appearance. It is made of steel with a beautiful arch, and has a stately look.
