Eat Delicious Pastries in an Old-World Setting at Kitakaro – HOKKAIDO LOVE!
dummy

Kitakaro is a renowned sweets shop and café chain in Hokkaido. In Sapporo’s Omotesando, the main store sits on the second floor of a repurposed library which was originally built in 1926, giving it a charming old-world atmosphere. Many parts of the building, like the grand entrance hall, have been left intact providing history-buffs with great spots for some snaps. The café serves parfaits, cake combo meals, and European-Japanese savory dishes like omurice (a thin omelet served on seasoned rice). A magnificent bookcase in the café extends to the ceiling, maintaining the building’s traditional literary aesthetic. You can also make reservations for branded Baumkuchen cakes (donut-shaped Dutch sweetbreads adopted by Japanese confectionary practitioners). The pastry chefs will use a branding iron to print a message of your request – birthday wishes, for example – on a Baumkuchen in time for your arrival. (Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance and branding may be in Japanese only).
