Gotoken, a Western-style restaurant in Hakodate, was established in 1879 serving Russian cuisine and bread. This 120-plus year history has placed it in the upper echelons of Hakodate’s culinary world. The main location on Nijukenzaka Slope is still a feast of international flavors. As a nod to Gotoken’s, and Hakodate’s, heritage, the building was designated as a nationally registered tangible cultural property. Top dishes in the restaurant include the French course using local ingredients and the Japanese-style curry.
