Hiking and Hot Springs at Mt. Me-akan

Located southwest of Lake Akan, Mt. Me-akan is the main peak of the Akan Mountain Group. Volcanic activity in the area began approximately 20,000 years ago, and repeated eruptions have created complex mountain structures. Despite its steep slopes, this course is the most popular path up the mountain as it offers the most direct route. Begin the hike surrounded by a forest of Sakhalin spruce. Further along, the trail admires alpine plants, such as Arenaria merckioides and Sibbaldia miyabei, which begin to appear at an elevation of approximately 1,000 meters.
