Ishiyama Green Space: A Relaxing Oasis of Art and Fun – HOKKAIDO LOVE!
dummy

Ishiyama Green Space is home to a type of soft stone used in the construction of many major buildings and warehouses around Sapporo. Since the stone is known for its excellent fire-resistant and insulative qualities, the area was a mine for many years. The remains of this mine were converted into a family-friendly park in 1993, complete with art installations, a playground, and a water play area. Several fascinating pieces of the art live within the converted green space. Pieces like the Negative Mound, made to resemble an ancient Greek coliseum, and the Gogo no Oka, an impressive fortress-like structure. Any art-lover will appreciate the dynamic scenery of this artistically delightful converted mine.
