Nabetsuru Rock: An Illuminated Symbol of Okushiri – HOKKAIDO LOVE!
dummy

Nabetsuru Rock, off of Okushiri Island in southwestern Hokkaido, gets its name from its peculiar shape. The large rock’s center has eroded away over millennia, resulting in a shape resembling the handle of a nabe (pot). Jutting out of the ocean at almost 20-meters high, the rock offers an otherworldly photo opportunity when illuminated at night, along with the countless squid fishing boats that skitter across the dark ocean in the background.
