Similar to its well-known cousin to the south, a striking tunnel of red torii gates also decorate the grounds of the Fushimi Inari Shrine in the heart of Sapporo. Known as a power spot in the region, locals and visitors alike gather at the shrine to drink in some of its energy. In winter, the contrast between the pure white snow and the sharp red gates paints a lovely, photogenic scene. At dusk, the 27 torii gates are illuminated by lantern light, giving the place a mystical atmosphere. A wishing stone is located through the gates, and it is said that if one promises to give up a favorite thing while making a wish, that wish will come true.
