Sapporo Bier Garten: The Home of Sapporo Beer – HOKKAIDO LOVE!
dummy

Premium beer together with Genghis Khan lamb barbecue… If this sounds good to you, we recommend heading straight to the Sapporo Bier Garten! Factory-fresh draft beer is a perfect match for Sapporo’s iconic soul food, and this beer hall is the perfect venue to enjoy these true Hokkaido flavors!

Sapporo Beer, named after Hokkaido’s largest city Sapporo, is the oldest beer brand in Japan, first brewed in the wintry north by an entrepreneurial brewer, Seibei Nakagawa after he returned home from an apprenticeship in Germany. The Sapporo Bier Garten, located on the site of the original brewery, is one of the best places in the city to sample fresh Sapporo drafts. There are four large drinking and dining halls, each more reminiscent in the architecture and design of middle Europe than northern Japan. You can kanpai (“cheers”) under a massive brewing cauldron built-in 1912 in the spacious Kessel Hall, or head to the classy Garden Grill for a sumptuous repast of grain-fed lamb. The Sapporo Bier Garten is also a great place to enjoy jingisukan, or “Genghis Khan”, lamb – a dish of grilled lamb and vegetables cooked on a convex skillet reminiscent of the iconic hat worn by the eponymous Mongolian conqueror. Of course, the flavors are elevated alongside a crisp Sapporo draft!
