Noboribetsu is home to a mysterious valley, long worshipped by locals for its powerful energies. A wooden walkway takes visitors through this otherworldly valley, allowing them to experience the strange phenomenon known as onibi or demon fire. Staying overnight in the Noboribetsu Onsen Area is the best way to take in this mysterious sight. The thick smoke that rises from the earth mingles with strategically positioned lights to create a visual effect that looks out of this world. Visitors that follow the path of lights will eventually find themselves standing before a crater made by an ancient volcano. Wearing a cotton yukata will make the journey through “hell valley” even more memorable.
