Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill, a viewpoint overlooking the Sapporo metropolitan area, is famous for its large statue of Dr. Clark, the founder of Hokkaido University, seemingly orating to an invisible crowd. But surrounding Dr. Clark is yet more magnificent sights: the vast, green pastoral landscapes of the Sapporo outskirts. Sheep graze peacefully here, while the summer brings with it scented lavender fields from which you can pick flowers yourself. In winter the area is transformed into a snow park and is bursting with family-friendly activities, such as dinghy sliding on the miniature slopes and building snow.
