Ten ni Tsuzuku Michi: Highway to the Heavens

The Ten ni Tsuzuku Michi, or “road to the sky,” is a straight 18km road that cuts straight through the center of the World Heritage Shiretoko Peninsula. This stretch of highway travels so directly toward the horizon that travelers feel as though they are driving straight into the heavens. The normally beautiful scenery is topped only by this route’s, particularly memorable sunsets. From the end of September until early October, the sun sets directly in the middle of the road, making it look as though they are driving all the way up into the setting sun itself.
