Constructed in 1888, the historically and architecturally significant Former Hokkaido Prefectural Office has located a short five-minute walk from Sapporo Station. Referred to as the Red Brick Building, this American Neo-Baroque style government office and its unique red brick structure was rarely seen in Japan at the time of its construction. The Former Hokkaido Prefectural Office served as the center of the Hokkaido prefectural government for 80 years until the modern office was built. As the seasons change throughout the year, the nostalgic Red Brick Building complements the surrounding landscape, whether as a background or foreground feature, making it an incredibly popular spot to snap photos.
