Trek to the incredible Nanajo Otaki Falls in Shikotsu-Toya National Park and witness naturally formed ice sculptures that can only be by snowshoe trekking. As Hokkaido comes into the colder months, the waterfall is transformed into a magnificent crystal wall of ice. The scene grows more striking with each day as more pillars of ice emerge. As you make your way to the falls, relax and unwind while listening to the sounds of the winter forest. Late January to February is the ideal time to visit, with one of Hokkaido’s biggest winter festivals taking place at nearby Lake Shikotsu in the same period.
