Watch the Lively Animals of the Sapporo Maruyama Zoo

The Sapporo Maruyama Zoo, which first opened in 1951, was the first zoo established in Hokkaido. Conveniently accessible from downtown Sapporo, the zoo is popular among visitors and families who enjoy observing the animals in their natural habitats and learning about their behavior from the zookeepers. In 2018, the polar bear enclosure underwent some large-scale renovations, and in 2019, the highly acclaimed elephant house re-opened after its own period of renovation. The new enclosures are nicer than ever, giving the animals plenty of room to live and play while zoo visitors watch in awe.
