Where Art Meets Historical Architecture: Otaru Art Base – HOKKAIDO LOVE!
dummy

Otaru Art Base occupies four historical buildings dating back to the early 1920s when the once prominent port town was at its peak. Formerly bustling banks and warehouses, these buildings have been repurposed and now house an art collection that ranges from traditional Japanese to Art Deco. In this multiple building art base, there are many stunning stained glass galleries, with some 19th and early 20th century pieces imported from England. Not to be missed is the impressive collection of stained glass works by Art Nouveau artist and designer, Louis Comfort Tiffany, on the first floor of the Nitori Museum of Art building.
