Yufutsu Museum: Learn About Hokkaido’s Settler History

Settlers from Hachioji, Tokyo arrived in the Yufutsu area in the late 1800s, tasked with protecting Hokkaido from the Russian invasion and developing its vast natural resources. At this museum, you can learn about how the colonial settlers lived and the hardships that they endured as farmers and pioneers. During this period, Japanese control on the North tightened and the region that we know as Hokkaido prefecture today was built.
