There are plenty of means to travel around Hokkaido. Trains, buses and flights between various hubs around the prefecture give visitors a direct route to their destination. If you prefer to drive, renting a car is a good way to see a different side of Hokkaido. Within the cities themselves, taxis and buses will help you get where you need to go.

Trains
The Hokkaido Rail Pass, available only to foreign tourists, is a great way to travel across Hokkaido at a reasonable price. This pass allows for unlimited rides on JR trains within the prefecture during its valid period.

3-Day Pass: Adults ¥17,400
Flexible 4-day: Adults ¥23,480
5-day Pass: Adults ¥23,480

The JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass provides visitors with unlimited rides on the JR East Japan and JR Hokkaido trains within the designated area. It even allows access to the Hokkaido Shinkansen.

Flexible 6-Day Pass: Adults ¥26,900

The subway is only available in Sapporo, and it consists of three lines: the Namboku Line, the Tozai Line, and the Toho Line. They operate in tandem with city bus lines, and discounted tickets are available if you take both bus and subway. The subway operates from 6:00AM to midnight every day.
