Clear Kayak Tour on Lake Shikotsu

Voted Clearest Water in Hokkaido 10 Years in a Row

Lake Shikotsu is a caldera lake formed by a large volcanic eruption about 44,000 years ago. The lake is one of the clearest in Japan, and you can even see traces of eruptions under the surface known locally as the “underwater Grand Canyon”. Enjoy the fresh air and clear views as you don a dry suit and head out in a clear-bottomed kayak. The lake rarely freezes over, even in the extreme cold of Hokkaido’s winter, earning it the name of “Japan’s northernmost unfrozen lake”.
