Kiusu Earthwork Burial Circles

A rare glimpse into ancient history

The Kiusu Earthwork Burial Circles are a collection of mass graves constructed about 3,200 years ago. These eight burial mounts are still visible from ground level and offer a rare insight into life during a time from which very few archeological sites are left. The earthwork was designated a national historic site in 1979 and again in 2019.
