Mishima’s Shiba Zakura Garden

Mt. Yotei and Moss Phlox Make for a Gorgeous Sight

This famous moss phlox spot (try saying that three times fast) in the Niseko Area gives you a window into the dynamic scenery only Hokkaido can provide. Mishima Sanno Shibazakura Garden in Kutchan used to be private property owned by a farmer named Kazuo Mishima. The white and pink moss phlox (called shibazakura in Japanese, or carpet cherryblossom) and Mt. Yotei contrast with the yellow nanohana flowers for a vividly colorful scenery that might make you feel like you’re standing in a naturalist painting. The moss phlox and nanohana flowers were all raised with love by Mishima himself and kept well into the present day. As a result of his kindness, his gorgeous property is open to all people to visit freely. Visitors are requested to adhere to proper etiquette as this is a private garden.
