Otaru Noh Theater

Experience Noh at the only theater in Hokkaido built to the standards of the Tokugawa Shogunate

Noh is an iconic form of masked theater dating back to the 14th century. The Otaru Noh Theater was built in 1926 by a wealthy merchant and donated to Otaru City in 1954. Visitors can experience the ancient traditions of Noh from early June until late August, while taking in the beautiful architecture made from carefully selected pine, cedar and cypress wood. You can also see sumptuous costumes and masks donated by the original owner’s family.
