Experience the Ainu Culture Up-Close

Sapporo Pirka Kotan means “Beautiful Sapporo Village” in the Ainu language. Come into contact and experience the lifestyle, history, and art of the indigenous Ainu’s unique culture. The Culture Center has exhibitions depicting the art, crafts, and clothing of the Ainu people. You can touch most of the exhibits and get up-close and personal with this interesting culture. There are cultural workshops like pattern embroidery and you can also learn how to make the traditional Ainu instrument, the mukkuri.
